Junior Army ROTC
JROTC Programs:
The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is a program authorized by the National Defense Act of 1916, and Public Law 88-647, 13 October 1964. The original concept of the program was to offer a non-compulsory cadet corps aimed toward making better citizens. Each branch of the military service has established a JROTC program representing the mission, history, traditions, and leadership doctrine of the service to educate high school students. A compilation of JROTC program objectives include the following:
- Develop informed and responsible citizens
- Develop self-control and restraint
- Promote patriotism
- Develop leadership
- Promote civic duties
- Develop strength and character
- Promote incentive to live a healthy drug free life
- Develop respect and understanding for constituted authority
- Provide information on military services
The content of the JROTC curriculum is related to the mission of each branch of the service; however, all of the programs strive for the program objectives above.
