CAMP ZAMA, JAPAN – The Department of Defense Education Activity Pacific East District is pleased to announce the selection of Ms. Camille Gouveia as assistant principal at Zama Middle High School. 

With 12 years of experience in education, Gouveia has taught middle school students in Florida, the United States Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico (Ft. Buchanan), and Japan (MCAS Iwakuni) across various grade levels. Throughout her career, she has actively engaged in leadership roles, serving as Department Chair, Grade-level Chair, and Continuous Improvement Chair during two District Accreditations. Her leadership has consistently driven effective and impactful instruction by leveraging data to enhance student achievement and engagement.

A former military child herself, with both parents having served in the United States Air Force, Gouveia has experienced a variety of educational environments, including charter schools, public schools, and DoDEA schools, both stateside and overseas. These experiences have shaped her belief in the importance of having a global mindset for fostering college and career readiness. Her involvement in undergraduate orientations and student organizations during her college years, as well as her post-graduation studies, further solidified her commitment to preparing students for post-graduation success.

Gouveia prides herself on cultivating collaboration amongst all stakeholders to support students in achieving academic success and becoming well-rounded individuals. She has a passion and unwavering commitment to student excellence, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to thrive. Students are at the forefront and heart of everything she does.

Gouveia holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education in English with a minor in Psychology, as well as a Master of Arts in Reading Education from the University of South Florida, Tampa. She also earned a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from St. Thomas University, Miami, Florida.

In her free time, Gouveia enjoys cooking and traveling. She and her husband, John Ayers Jr., share a mutual enthusiasm for venturing to different countries together; however, they also find joy in discovering the hidden gems of Japan, one prefecture at a time.
